August March was a fence, who ran a smuggling network in Hawaii. He was arrested by John McGarrett for ordering the murder of two of his business associates, even tried to bribe him, but he wasn't persuaded. He was released after serving 30 years.
In Kalele, Captain Vince Fryer, Commander Steve McGarrett, and Detective Danny Williams ask him for help regarding a diamond smuggling operation resulting in the abduction of a flight attendant named Angela Branson, the arrest of Mary McGarrett, Steve McGarrett's sister, and the death of two police officers transferring the diamonds into evidence. They needed him to set up a meet with Daryl Kaleo, the brother of disgraced cop, Detective Kaleo, which resulted with Fryer having to shoot and kill Daryl. However it is later discovered that Angela, who was also Daryl's ex-wife, was in on the operation and faked her own abduction. Angela later met up with March, who was revealed to be the mastermind, to sell the diamonds, but he double crosses her and shoots her, taking both the diamonds and the money.
In Kanalua, H50 ask for his help again in a case involving a group of thieves who have stolen paintings and kidnapped the daughter of a NASCAR driver they forced to help them and later murdered. H50 later find the robbers dead and no sign of the daughter. After ballistic evidence confirmed the same gun that killed the robbers was the same one March used to kill Angela, along with March's prints being found on one of the stolen paintings, March confesses to the killings. He leads Steve and Danny to an abandoned factory to where the girl is apparently held, but it's an attempt to lead them away from rescuing the girl, he commits suicide by jumping in front of a truck. Despite that, H50 later find and rescue the girl.
