Season 5[]

In episode 5.20 Ike Hanau Maxwell and his wife Diane visit their friends Lou and Renee Grover in Hawaii to celebrate their wedding anniversary. They are seen having dinner with the Grovers before going back to the hotel so they can get up early the next morning and go on a hike. During this hike, Clay's wife allegedly falls down a cliff because she lost her balance. In the course of the investigation, Lou Grover suspects that Diane's death was not an accident and that Clay murdered his wife. He later finds out that his friend has been cheating on his wife for a long time with a woman named Leann Stockwell. At the end of the episode, Grover vows that he will put Clay in prison no matter how long it takes.

Season 6[]

In the episode 6.13 Umia Ka Hanu (Hold The Breath") Lou takes Clay captive in his own home and ransacks it in order to find the evidence that he stole $250,000 from a bust they did years ago since he cannot prove Clay murdered his wife.

In the episode 6.19 Malama Ka Po'e, Clay is not seen, but when Lou has to go on the run with his family, Five-0 discover that he's running from Aaron Barnes, whose criminal organization was brought down by Lou when he was undercover. They try to figure out how Barnes found out about Lou, and discover that Clay exposed Lou to Barnes' lawyer to get revenge. Five-0 tracks down Barnes and kills him, while Lou is able to save himself and his family, thwarting Clay's attempt.

Season 7[]

The only mention of Clay Maxwell in 7. 21 Ua malo'o ka wai where Lou goes back to Chicago with his son Will to testify against Clay.

Season 8[]

In episode 8.05 At Kama'oma'o, The Land of Activities the deathrow inmate and contract killer Sebastian Wake asks Lou Grover to meet up with him hours before his execution by electric chair. He tells Lou he has proof that Clay murdered his wife and that Clay tried to hire him to kill Lou Grover. He promises Lou that he can give him evidence of both crimes if he can delay his execution. Lou is unable to do so, and he is forced to watch Wake's execution, knowing that Wake was the only person who could prove the murder. On his way home from prison, a guard hands him a letter from Wake containing a hand-drawn map that leads him to a place in a national park where a box of voice recordings is buried, proving both Maxwell's murder of his wife and the attempted contract killing of Lou Grover. Grover calls Steve and asks him to call the prosecutor in Chicago and tell him that they can finally convict Maxwell.
