Ho'amoano (Chasing Yesterday) is the 22nd episode of Season 5 in the remake version on Hawaii Five-0, and 115th episode in the series.

Synopsis[]

When a dead woman is found in a hotel suite belonging to three married, hungover men, the team must help retrace their steps as they try to remember what happened -- and find the killer.

Plot[]

Jake Lockhard and his accountant buddies from Cleveland are on a 'hunting trip' without their wives, throwing cash around to attract Spring Break student girls. The fun is over when they find a young woman’s corpse in their suite bathtub, who bled to death from a gunshot to her head. But, instead of calling the police, they try to bury her but do so too conspicuously and are caught.

So the trio is arrested and questioned by Steve and Danny, who realize that the failed ‘adulterers’ probably aren't murderers either and reconstruct the fatal night of debauchery, identifying the victim as student Rebecca Oleana, who just was tracked down by her cancer-terminal biological father and half-brother.

On his first day as shrimp delivery motor biker, Jerry follows an apparently abducted woman, only for Chin to find her 'kidnapper' throat-slit then track her to a sex-traffic sweatshop farm.

Quotes[]

Lou Grover: These parents send their kids off on their own dime to drink and use drugs and possibly end up like this young lady.
Dr. Max Bergman: Well, you do understand it is a time-honored tradition among most American college students. Including myself.
Lou Grover: Well all due respect, Doc, you don't seem like the kind of guy that's gonna end up sucking Jell-O shots off some girl's belly.
Dr. Max Bergman: That is correct. However, there was an incident in Cancún, spring of '94, that involved a bottle of absinthe, a regrettable tattoo and 48 hours in a Mexican prison.
Lou Grover: Yeah. I don't think I want to know any details.
Dr. Max Bergman: Nor would I care to elaborate.

Trivia[]

  • Much of the plot of this episode shares similarities with the plot of the 2009 movie The Hangover: in the episode, three men on vacation wake up with massive hangovers, as well as little to no recollection of the previous night's events. In the film, the same thing occurs, except the men in the film were attending a bachelor party for their friend. While the film (which is a comedy) relates to an upcoming wedding, this episode relates to a murder.
