Hawaii Five-O Wiki

The Honolulu Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for Honolulu, Hawaii.

Detective Danny Williams, Lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly and Officer Kono Kalakaua worked there as well before joining Hawaii Five-0 which Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett leads. The Five-0 taskforce usually liases with Sergeant Duke Lukela at crime scenes.

The building was destroyed in an explosion that criminal Hillary Chaver arranged during the Season Two finale, Ua Hala but it was later presumably repaired, rebuilt and reopened for business during Season 3.

Officers/Divisions[]

Patrol[]

The patrol team is one of the more important roles, as they respond to calls, are dispatched to crime scenes, and liase with the Five-0 task force when needed. Notable members include Duke Lukela and Pua Kai.

Crime Lab[]

The crime lab's primary goal is to provide forensic expertise to assist with crime solving. Often times, they are seen working at crime scenes, dusting for prints and checking computers for information. Notable members include Charlie "Charles" Fong and Eric Russo. After Season 5, Charlie Fong disappears from the show, presumably leaving the department and replaced by Eric Russo.

SWAT Team[]

The SWAT team is the primary tactical division of the Honolulu Police Department. Established in 1946, the team helps the Five-0 in situations where they require additional backup, perimeters, or guard duty.

Season 1: The SWAT Team is first seen in episode 1x05, where they help out Five-0 on a raid. The team is later deployed on numerous occasions including securing the bomb perimeter in the Christmas episode, house raids (episode 9, episode 14), serving as hostage rescue in 1x07, and busting McGarrett in the season finale.

Season 2: Unlike Season 1, SWAT does not have a heavy presence. The team only appears in three episodes, 2x01, 2x07, and 2x17.

Season 3: The SWAT team returns with a heavy presence within the show. They are first seen deployed to protect Doris McGarrett when she arrives from Japan with McGarrett; Other notable apperances include when they are deployed in the hostage crisis in Ohuna, and when they are securing the hospital in 3x21 after Wo Fat is taken there.

Season 4: The SWAT team recieves a total revamp, shortly after the arrival of new commander Lou Grover. The SWAT team is deployed on numerous occasions, including the hostage situation in 4x01, rescuing McGarrett and Danny in 4x14, helping Five-0 search for Lietuenant Kelly in 4x11, and securing Ian Wright in 4x08. In 4x22, Lou abuses his powers by giving SWAT gear and weapons to a group of robbers, in order for them to steal money from a transport; This results in his removal from SWAT, and his move to the Five-0 team instead.

In 6x24, the SWAT team is deployed when Five-0 is trapped in Chinatown; However, they are caught in an ambush by Yakuza gangsters, resulting in many of them being injured; Despite this, they show up in the end to assist Five-0 with a raid on Michelle Noshimuri. They also appear briefly in 6x25 during a raid on drug traffickers who shot McGarrett on a helicopter.

Season 7: The SWAT Team returns; Notable apperances include in 7x01 to find a suspect located inside a hotel, 7x05 where they secure the area during a hostage situation, and 7x22; In 7x22, the SWAT team is deployed on a raid of an ex-military officer, which results in the injury of all of the SWAT officers; Despite this, they manage to reappear near the end of the episode, where they help to secure the perimeter during a jewelry heist and provide cover support to Five-0 during a gunfight; However, one member is still shot, which results in McGarrett coming to their rescue.

Trivia[]

  • Although the main building is shown within the first three seasons, there is secondary station which is prominent in Season 5 and beyond. In Kuleana, flashbacks reveal that Chin Ho Kelly worked in this secondary station.
  • HPD vehicles are commonly used within other shows, including Magnum P.I., NCIS: Hawaii, and even Dougie Kamealoha.
  • The show uses real life Honolulu Police Department vehicles; However, they are often seen as lowly and decommissoned.
