John Joseph Patrick Ryan (December 30, 1920- January 21, 1998), best known as Jack Lord, was an American actor who played Steve McGarrett on the original Hawaii Five-O TV series which aired during the 1960s.
Death[]
After the original series ended in 1980, Lord kept a low profile, rarely making public appearances. His final TV appearance was that same year in a failed pilot for CBS called M Station: Hawaii which he also directed. Lord suffered from Alzheimer's disease in his last years. He died of congestive heart failure at his home in Honolulu, Hawaii, on January 21, 1998, at age 77, leaving an estate of $40 million. He was a philanthropist and the entire estate went to Hawaiian charities upon his wife Marie's death in 2005.
Trivia[]
- Sadly even the Me-TV version, which usually has classic TV Shows with missing parts, did not restore the part of the series in which the teaser of the next episode has McGarrett at the end saying: "This is Jack Lord. Be with us next time for..... Aloha!"
