However it is safe to assume Maria and Vanessa were sisters, as she is Sara's aunt and her maiden name was never revealed. However it is possible Maria was Vanessa's cousin, not her sister, as after her death, Lou Grover mentions that the Mexican government revealed Vanessa had a cousin who they were trying to identify.
