Poniu I Ke Aloha (Crazy In Love) is the 16th episode of Season 7 in the remake version of Hawaii Five-0.

Synopsis[]

While McGarrett and Danno celebrate Valentine’s Day with their girlfriends, the rest of Five-0 investigates the murder of a man taking a class on how to land women.

Plot[]

The guys had wanted to make Valentine’s Day special. McGarrett and Danny had both decided to plan a romantic weekend with their girlfriends at a hotel and they had merely wanted some couple’s time. But their girls it seems had had other plans. The ladies had booked their guys into connecting rooms at the same hotel and the worst part about it had been the connecting door. So the guys had hated their surprise and they had wanted to find a way to get out of it.

Chin told them that Five-0 had gotten a new case and that it was ok because he thought they could handle it on their own. Chin apparently thought he would ruin their weekend away from it all and so he hadn’t wanted to disturb them. However, he did enjoy a laugh at their expense since the guys had found themselves stuck with each other for the weekend. The guys decided to try to make the best of it.

They went along with the couples thing and did activities, yet there had been an incident with some rude kid. The kid had thrown his Frisbee at Danny’s girlfriend’s butt and had refused to apologize for it. So Danny had thrown the kid’s Frisbee into the ocean. And, well, it was all juvenile and Danny should have known better than to engage. Danny tried to get those sunglasses back that he thought the kid had stolen, but the kid had screamed that he was being touched inappropriately. So McGarrett had had to drag Danny away before they both got arrested over sunglasses that weren’t worth more than twenty dollars. Fortunately, his friends back at headquarters at least managed to do something better with their time.

Back at 5-0, they had identified the victim as Jeremy Holden. Jeremy had last been seen hanging out at the bar with his supposed mentor Blake Stone. Blake Stone was a guy that taught classes on how to pick up women and he had said that he had taken Jeremy to the bar in order for the other man to try out “The Method”.

“The Method” was he called his services in getting higher self-esteem and picking up, but Blake Stone had unfortunately pointed out a girl to Jeremy that he thought would be her perfect fit and poor Jeremy had ended up dying that same night. So Black Stone had been asked about the girl because they Five-0 had wanted to get a name. Though Blake Stone had said that he hadn’t known a single thing about the woman other than she had looked hot. And so the guys had asked around at the bar and they had been told that the woman in question had looked like a pro. Pro, of course, being a politer of saying prostitute.

The good thing about prostitutes however is that they’re more likely to have a record. So the guys quickly found the woman that was last seen with Jeremy and Lou even had a connection with her madam. Lou had once arrested Cordelia Martin for running a prostitution ring and he knew that she was back to her old tricks. But Cordelia had said that Vanessa had found a new scheme and it turns out the new scheme involved. Stone. The legendary ladies’ man that knew how to get any woman he wanted had hired prostitutes so that his clients would believe that his stupid method was working. And all along it was just a con.

However, Stone couldn’t have just made it easy for them by telling the truth the first time around. So the guys put him in the box until he talked and gave up where Vanessa lived yet Vanessa wasn’t there and her friend wasn’t worried about her. She said Vanessa would have come back and she thought that Vanessa’s stalker might be the reason why Vanessa was suddenly gone. She said that there was this guy that couldn’t understand that Vanessa wasn’t interested in him and that he kept contacting Vanessa all the time believing he could change her mind. And so Five-0 had tried looking into Vanessa’s life to see if there might be an ex in the picture and they found nothing.

There wasn’t any indication that Vanessa had been involved with anyone and so the one piece of evidence they had was the many ways that this guy had contacted her. So that traced that back to a guy named Neil Ware and surprisingly Neil had been one of Stone’s clients that had thought what happened with Vanessa had been real. Yet, Vanessa had gotten away from her captor and had time to call for help so Neil had never gotten the chance to hurt her though he did find out the truth the hard way. Vanessa had told Neil everything while he held her captive and so she had heard him say that he was going to punish both her and Stone for conning him.

So after the police were able to secure Vanessa, they raced across town to save Stone and they had managed to bring down Neil without hurting him too bad. Though Stone didn’t learn anything from what nearly happened. He still hit on Kono because he said her wedding ring wasn’t a deal breaker for him, but the guys did find out Jeremy’s killer and they had done it without McGarrett and Danny. The two missing detectives had gotten into an ongoing with the bratty kid that Danny swore took his sunglasses and had actually broken into the kid’s hotel room that he shares with his parents. And so Danny had been forced to pay for the family’s dinner when he didn’t find the sunglasses and it was later revealed the glasses had been in his hotel room the entire time.

Notes[]

  • Melissa and Lynn set the guys up so they can all hang out and have a "couples trip".
  • Danny says "I love you" to Melissa during the volleyball scene.
  • Steve flips the bird to Danny during the volleyball game.. or maybe he just likes to spin the ball on his middle finger... yeah that's it...
  • The liver transplant scars on both Danny and Steve are visible in the scene(s) after they come out of the ocean but have not yet put on their shirts. Steve's GSW to the left side is also clearly visible.
  • Steve plays with Danny's ear in the final scene right before "chicken salad"... which Steve ignores.
  • This is the last time we see Lynn in the series.

Quotes[]

(Steve walks out on the suite balcony to look over Waikiki's beach)
(Steve turns a bit to the left - and there stands Danny on the balcony right next to his)
Danny Williams: Why?
(Danny and Steve look at each other)
Steve McGarrett: Okay, something tells me this is not an accident.
(Danny and Steve continue to look across at each other in surprise)
Danny Williams: Melissa!
Steve McGarrett: Lynn!
Danny Williams: Melissa!
Melissa Armstrong: Hey, look who I found.
(Melissa giggles as she and Lynn walk out on Danny's balcony)
Steve McGarrett: How'd you get ov.. over there?
(Steve figures it out)
Steve McGarrett: We got adjoining rooms, huh? (lackluster) Got adjoining rooms.
Melissa Armstrong: (arm wrapped around Danny) You know how you're always talking about how we should all hang out?
Danny Williams: Uh-huh.
Melissa Armstrong: Well, Lynn and I finally decided to make it happen.
Lynn Downey: Surprise!
Steve McGarrett: (fake enthusiasm) Hey, I'm-I'm (whoops)
Lynn Downey: Couples trip.
Steve McGarrett: Couples trip
Danny Williams: All right.
Melissa Armstrong: All right, we got a lot of fun stuff planned. So..
Lynn Downey: You guys finish your beers. Melissa and I are gonna go get ready for the beach.
(Melissa kisses Danny)
Lynn Downey: Come on. Get out of here. Let's go.
(Melissa giggles while she and Lynn walk back into Danny's room)
(Danny holds up a finger while Danny and Steve, both, close their sliding glass doors for some privacy)
Steve McGarrett: I know what you did. I know what you did. Yeah, you. You told Melissa we need to hang out as a group, didn't you?
Danny Williams: Yeah. But I didn't mean it. That is what you say to your girlfriend when you don't want her to think you're an antisocial weirdo.
Steve McGarrett: You are an antisocial weirdo.
Danny Williams: That's the whole point. I don't want her thinking that.
Steve McGarrett: Okay. No, smart move. Hide your true self from your girlfriend. I'm sure that's gonna be great for your relationship.
Danny Williams: (resigned) This is a disaster
Steve McGarrett: Are you crazy? Look at us. We got baller suites, killer views. We're drinking beer at 10:00 in the morning. It's awesome.
Danny Williams: First of all, don't say "baller" ever again in your life.
Steve McGarrett: Why?
Danny Williams: Just trust me. That's why. Don't say it. Okay? That's number one. Number two, I am, uh, supposed to be romantic this weekend with her. You're.. you're aware of that, right?
Steve McGarrett: So what's the problem?
Danny Williams: The problem is that you are here, and I do not need you judging me. I don't need your judgy eyes, your judgy face, your judgy everything. I don't need that while I'm trying to be romantic, you understand?
Steve McGarrett: First of all, I'm very aware of your issues, of your intimacy issues, and.. and the last thing I would want to do is make you feel uncomfortable.
Danny Williams: Uh-huh.
Steve McGarrett: Here's what we're gonna do. If at any stage my presence makes you feel uncomfortable, makes you feel like you can't quite get to the romantic, intimate place you need to get to, you say the word, I'm out.
Danny Williams: Uh-huh.
Steve McGarrett: All right?
Danny Williams: Like a safe word?
Steve McGarrett: Yeah.
Danny Williams: Ah. I say the word, whatever it is, and you, uh..
Steve McGarrett: I leave.
Danny Williams: Okay. What's the, what's the safe word, then?
(Steve has no idea what to say)
Steve McGarrett: "chicken salad"...
Danny Williams: "Chicken salad"?
Steve McGarrett: Yeah.
Danny Williams: "Chicken salad" Okay. Well, yeah, I'll just figure out a way to casually slide "chicken salad" into a normal human sentence.
Steve McGarrett: Organically.
Danny Williams: Organically.
Steve McGarrett: Weave it in.
Danny Williams: Yeah.

Blake Stone: Excuse me. Officer Kalakaua, can I ask you a question? Do you believe that there's a thin line between love and hate? Because the way that you were laying into me back there, that was so over the top, I was like, "Wow, maybe she likes me"
Kono Kalakaua: I don't.
Blake Stone: Fair enough. Fair enough. Hey, just so you know, I go for more of the uninhibited, free-spirited types.
Kono Kalakaua: Ah. (chuckles) Yeah, I know what you're doing. It's called negging. Right? Yeah, you're betting that my self-confidence is so fragile that I actually care about what you think of me. You prey on women's insecurities and vulnerabilities, and then you exploit that.
Chin Ho Kelly: Wow, Blake. That didn't go so well.

Danny Williams: What are you doing? Sit down. Sit down, please.
Steve McGarrett: What am I doing? What are you doing?
Danny Williams: I'm doing a little recon.
Steve McGarrett: Recon.
(Steve and Danny look over their shoulder to see what the boy is doing)
Steve McGarrett: Can I ask you a question?
Danny Williams: Uh-huh.
Steve McGarrett: What.. what recon? He doesn't have the glasses with him.
Danny Williams: I know that. I know where he put the glasses. He thinks he outsmarted me, but he didn't. I know where the glasses are.
Steve McGarrett: Okay. Something you should know... I think it's important I tell you - you have completely separated from reality right now, all over a pair of $20 glasses. You understand that?
Danny Williams: It's not about the money.
Steve McGarrett: It's not about the money?
Danny Williams: No, it's the principle.
Steve McGarrett: You mean pettiness, huh?
